Annual Report 2025

Where every dollar came from, where it went, and what it accomplished. Reviewed and audited.

2025 in Review

This page summarizes K9VA's operations, programs, and finances for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025. We publish this voluntarily โ€” beyond what's required of a 501(c)(3) โ€” because transparency is the bare minimum that retired working dogs and their donors deserve.

Governance & Accountability

  • Independent audit: Conducted annually by Bergen & Halpern LLP. The 2025 audit was unqualified.
  • IRS Form 990: Filed publicly; available on request and via the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search.
  • Board of Directors: 9 unpaid members, including 4 veterans and 2 licensed veterinarians. Meets quarterly.
  • Conflict of interest policy: Reviewed and signed annually by all staff and board members.
  • Whistleblower & document retention policies: In place and reviewed every two years.

Looking Ahead โ€” 2026 Priorities

Three goals shape the year in front of us:

  • Expand the Veteran Program from 17 to 30 active pairings by year-end.
  • Complete the second pack pasture โ€” adding 4 fenced acres to reduce wait times for outdoor rotation.
  • Build a $500K reserve fund for catastrophic veterinary events, lessening reliance on emergency appeals.
"The dogs don't care about our spreadsheets. But every dollar we account for honestly is a dollar that can keep doing the work."
โ€” Elena Park, K9VA Treasurer
