Our Sanctuary

Thirty-eight acres in the Hudson Valley, purpose-built for the dogs who served โ€” quiet, green, and theirs.

Welcome to the Sanctuary

Set on 38 acres of rolling Hudson Valley farmland, our sanctuary is the permanent home of 48 retired K9s โ€” and the temporary one of many more. We designed it from the ground up with retired working dogs in mind: low stimulation, ample shade, soft footing, and round-the-clock veterinary access. Most dogs settle in within their first week.

The Grounds

๐Ÿก

The Kennels

32 individual climate-controlled suites with heated floors, private outdoor runs, and orthopedic bedding. Built for senior dogs who need calm.

๐ŸŒณ

Pack Pastures

Three fenced acres divided into rotating play paddocks. Most dogs spend 4โ€“6 hours daily outdoors, weather permitting.

โš•

Veterinary Suite

On-site exam rooms, hydrotherapy pool, and partnership with Cornell's veterinary teaching hospital for surgical needs.

๐ŸŒ™

Hospice Wing

Eight quiet end-of-life suites. Every dog in our care ends their life surrounded by people they trust.

๐Ÿช–

Veteran Cabin

A 4-bed cabin for visiting former handlers and Veteran Program participants. Stays are always free.

๐Ÿพ

Memorial Garden

A walled garden honoring every K9 we've laid to rest. Engraved stones bear their names, services, and years.

A Day at the Sanctuary

The day starts at 5:30 AM with a quiet check-in by overnight staff. Morning meds, breakfast, and outdoor time follow. By mid-morning, dogs split into small pack groups based on temperament and mobility. Afternoons are for enrichment โ€” scent work for the ones who still want a job, gentle walks for the ones who don't, and naps in sunny corners for everyone.

Each dog has an individualized care plan reviewed monthly by our veterinary team, behaviorist, and lead handler. Nothing about retirement here is one-size-fits-all.

Visit Us

The sanctuary is open by appointment to donors, sponsors, school groups, and the families of dogs in our care. We don't run public walk-in tours โ€” our residents have earned their peace and quiet โ€” but small guided visits are scheduled most Saturdays from April through October.

โ€” Dana Reyes, Lead Handler

What You Won't See

You won't see chain-link runs, you won't hear constant barking, and you won't find any of our dogs in cages for more than the time it takes to clean a kennel. Stress is the enemy of recovery, and our entire facility is engineered around lowering it.

Sponsor a Sanctuary Resident

Every dog at the sanctuary has a sponsorship page. Monthly sponsors receive quarterly photo updates, veterinary summaries, and an open invitation to visit their dog whenever the gates are open.

Schedule your visit

Tours fill up quickly in summer. Reach out to reserve a Saturday slot or arrange a private visit.
